Turn Up the Motivation

Electronics Incentives to Inspire Your Best

Family movie nights, photos and videos shared with friends, favorite songs—the ways electronics enhance our ability to enjoy our play time and connect with the world are ever-expanding, and continue to provide strong motivation for incentive program participants who aspire to either acquire or upgrade to the latest and greatest new technology.

"Consumer electronics are always a big draw to any program," said Eric Anderson, director of sales for PMC, a leading provider of high-quality brand-name consumer electronics and merchandise to the premium incentive and special markets channels. "They always generate excitement just like a high-end timepiece or other hot product of the time. When you are rewarding aspiration, be sure to include electronics!"

Indeed, consumer electronics has long been one of the most popular product categories used to motivate top performance in employees and sales professionals, as well as to recognize and reward. Manufacturers are always innovating, and new must-have items are continually introduced to the market.

"People love technology," said Kenneth Fishman, director of purchasing for Rymax, a national manufacturer's representative based in Pine Brook, N.J. "Not only does it make their lives easier, but it also adds to their enjoyment—be it viewing sports on a better TV, or working out and having a more feature-rich fitness device to track and log their efforts."

The world of technology and electronics is always offering up something new that you can use to drive people toward the behaviors that will make your organization more successful.

So, what's the latest?

Seeing

In the realm of television, Anderson said, expect to see an expansion of 4K TV product offerings, as well as pricing compression on this type of TV.

"Folks will be able to redeem for a 4K TV at or near points values they were using to select similar size HDTV models just a few years ago. And with more and more content becoming available through streaming sites like Roku, being able to upgrade to a 4K flat-screen TV is going to have a nice impact on any award program.

"We are also starting to see smaller screen sizes start to get eliminated by the tier 1 companies," he added. "Samsung, for instance, is going to stop making a screen smaller than 32 inches this year. Those screen sizes will still be covered by tier 2 and tier 3 brands. But not to worry, even those screen sizes will have HD resolution, which equals a wonderful picture."

Available through PMC, Samsung QLED TV provides a brilliant picture, enhanced by a billion unique colors created by Samsung's proprietary Quantum Dots, giving you an incredibly unique TV viewing experience. Watch your favorite shows on a gorgeous TV with Boundless 360-degree Design™ that elegantly fits into your home. Sizes range from 49 inches to 88 inches with different feature sets on a variety of models. Samsung QLED will raise your TV viewing experience to a whole new level.

If TVs are measured on picture quality, then the Sony Z-series stands alone. Near perfect black levels combine with the ability to reproduce the brightness and color of the real world, while your favorites get upscaled and enhanced to look like 4K HDR. It's a viewing experience that can't be replicated.

Sharing

When you're ready to start sharing photos and videos instead of just viewing them, a smartphone might be the quickest tool at hand, but advances in cameras and optics mean there's a wide realm of better ways to capture images, whether still or moving.

The Red Planet Series RP-200 telescope, available through Carson Optical, now comes bundled with a smartphone adapter. With the smartphone adapter you can take pictures or video of the night sky through the telescope and share with friends and family. The RP-200 is a Refractor telescope featuring superior, fully coated optics and a high-quality, heavy-duty aluminum tripod. Other features include a horizon mount with slow motion cables for easy tracking of celestial objects, an 8x21mm finder scope, two high-quality eyepieces, and an erecting prism for the best viewing results. With many features typically found in an interchangeable lens camera, as well as performance and image quality to match, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III breaks new ground as the first Canon compact digital camera to feature a large 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor for detailed images and Dual Pixel CMOS AF for fast autofocus. Whatever you need, the PowerShot G1 X Mark III camera delivers outstanding results.

Hearing

With music a huge part of most anyone's life, it should come as no surprise that audio products continue to be tremendously popular.

With music a huge part of most anyone's life, it should come as no surprise that audio products continue to be tremendously popular. According to Anderson, both headphones and speakers are still huge redeemers.

"Headphones and speakers with Bluetooth are very strong redeemers," he said. "With the advance technology now in Bluetooth and the improved performance of both the speakers and headphones, it is taking listening to digital music to a whole new level. Though still fairly new in the market, cell phone makers are starting to upgrade their Bluetooth technology to BT 5.0. And a very cool feature of 5.0 is the ability for two Bluetooth headphones to connect to one device, now allowing two people with headphones to listen to the same device!"

This system comes complete with a CD player changer, a digital FM PLL digital radio, Bluetooth wireless audio streaming, USB playback/input, large LED display and remote control. Multi-function remote gives you total wireless control from your easy chair.

Connecting

"Just as we saw in 2017, the connectivity trend is continuing full speed ahead in 2018," Fishman said. "Products like Amazon Echo, Wi-Fi Smart lightbulbs and smart home security systems continue to dominate the market.

"We live in a world where people need to feel connected at all times," he added. "It provides both a sense of control as well as a sense of comfort. We like that we can monitor our front doors while we're away or stream our favorite playlists throughout the house when we're entertaining guests. This trend is not expected to slow down any time soon.

"Electronics with Alexa technology are a crowd favorite," he continued. "Every day, more and more people are telling Alexa to turn up the volume on the TV, set a timer, book them an Uber ride or check their schedule. According to RBC, if the momentum continues at this pace, Amazon will sell an estimated 60 million Alexa devices in the year 2020 alone."

Available through Links Unlimited, Amazon Echo is a hands-free speaker you control with your voice. Echo connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, ask questions, make calls, send and receive messages, provide information, news, sports scores, weather and more—instantly. All you have to do is ask.

"People are attracted to the convenience and ease of use that voice control technology offers," Fishman said. "Today's on-the-go, multi-tasking lifestyle demands that we can control things quickly and without complication. And again, in a time when we all want to stay connected, a virtual assistant like Alexa helps us to simply and seamlessly bring together all of our different technologies."

Put It Together

When you're ready to put together all of these different technologies for seeing, sharing, hearing and connecting, it's important to remember a few key things.

As always, the most important consideration is brand. Recognizable brand names not only carry the cachet you're looking for, but also can be relied upon to deliver the expected experience.

2018 is expected to be an exciting year for technology. Be sure to offer the latest and greatest innovations so that your audience stays engaged and motivated.

Anderson advised, "These are valuable items. With the rise in porch pirates, people really need to be smart about shipping, with adult signature required or shipping to their place of employment."

He added, "Also, remember that this item is a reward for a positive effort. So we want the winner to have a positive experience all the way through. Be sure to work closely with your program administrator to best understand any twist or potential hang-ups or traps that could be a pain point. Better to deal with understanding those and find related solutions up front than try to figure that out later."

"Generally speaking," Fishman concluded, "rewards trends tend to mirror retail trends. SO understand the marketplace and know what's hot. Give your audience access to the most sought-after brands and the latest merchandise—this is especially true for electronics.

"2018 is expected to be an exciting year for technology," he added. "Be sure to offer the latest and greatest innovations so that your audience stays engaged and motivated."
